Providing world-leading medical education to healthcare professionals plays a central role in our commitment to improving patient outcomes. The recent introduction of digital operating rooms to our training facilities is just one of the ways in which we are actively expanding our provision.
Digital operating rooms are now available in Smith+Nephew Academy Singapore, Academy Munich and, most recently, Academy London.
The digital operating rooms include our handheld robotics surgical system, 4K arthroscopy towers, surgical navigation tools, live transmission capabilities and touch-screen interfaces. They fully incorporate BrainLab Buzz systems including 4K Multi Audio-Visual switching and seamless integration in Hospital Information System (HIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) systems.
The digital experience is further supported by a virtual reality simulation studio, tech-enabled teaching auditorium, and a professional broadcast studio where experts can record and live-stream surgical techniques to educate fellow healthcare professionals across the globe.
Dave Dorrian, Technical Manager at Smith+Nephew Academy London says, “The benefits of a digital operating room like this for our customers are huge; increased productivity, full system integration, improving OR efficiencies with less downtime, all vitally important to achieving better patient outcomes. By integrating advanced technologies and cutting-edge virtual reality (VR), medical professionals can simulate complex surgical procedures and diagnostic processes in a risk-free, virtual environment.”
